Pointe Dance Classes

Pointe dance, an extension of classical ballet, involves performing ballet movements on the tips of the toes using specially designed pointe shoes. This form of dance emerged in the 19th century as ballet techniques became more refined, allowing dancers to appear weightless and sylph-like on stage. Frequently Asked Questions About Our Pointe Dance Classes

Pointe dance is a form of ballet where dancers wear pointe shoes to perform on the tips of their toes. It requires strong technique, balance, and ankle strength. Pointe is typically not recommended for beginners; dancers usually need several years of ballet training and must have sufficient strength and technique as assessed by a qualified instructor before starting pointe work.

Before starting pointe, dancers need to have completed several years of classical ballet training and must be taking multiple ballet classes per week to maintain their technique and strength. A pre-pointe assessment by a dance instructor is also necessary to ensure the dancer's feet and ankles are strong enough to undertake pointe work safely. Age is also a factor, with most teachers recommending that dancers not start pointe until their bones have matured, typically around 11 to 12 years old.

Pointe shoes require careful maintenance to extend their life and ensure safety during dance. Dancers should air out their shoes after each use to prevent moisture buildup, which can weaken the shoes. It's also important to use padding inside the shoes for protection and comfort. Shoes should be replaced regularly as they wear out, which can vary from a few performances to several weeks, depending on usage and the dancer's technique level.

State the dancer should wear a form fitting outfit that allows the judges to see their lines. dancer may choose to wear either leotard and tights and booty shorts if wanted or they are allowed to wear a bra top and leggings or bra and briefs/shorts. Be comfortable and confident what you are wearing! Also make sure to bring all pairs of dance shoes, as well as pants and tennis shoes if dancer is auditioning for a hip-hop combo. pants may also be needed if combo and lyrical or contemporary specified by the teacher.

Dance should arrive 30 minutes early in case we are running ahead. We also ask for the dancers to keep low volume in the waiting room and ensure they are stretched and ready to go.

Audition results will be posted on our socials as well as the website as well as an email being sent out to the parents. you can expect to see the results up to five days after the audition.
